The Empire Mine

It may seem like we talk about mines a lot here at Gold Country Campground, but that’s hardly surprising. When you’re staying with us, you’re likely to be interested in some of the amazing things the area has to offer, and our rich history of mining is one of those things. Where else in the United States can you see so many amazing places? Let’s take a look at the Empire Mine near Gold Country Campground Resort.

The Empire Mine and Gold Country Campground

In the early 1900s, you’d hear stamp mills thundering 24 hours a day. The whistles let you know that everything was working, and that money was being made. The Empire Mine operated from 1850 to 1956 and produced 5.8 million ounces of gold.

Miners from all over the world came here to get in on the action. You can walk in the footsteps of those brave miners when you visit the Empire Mine State Historical Park (SHP).

Things To Do

There is a plethora of things to do at the Empire Mine SHP including mine models, a blacksmith’s shop, and a mine yard tour. If you’re more into touring the grounds, consider the Gardens and Grounds tour or a look at the cottage grounds. They also have extensive hiking, biking, and equestrian exploration. The trails alone occupy 850 acres of space and give you amazing vistas to ease into your memory or observe to hone your photography skills!
